Analysis of CD magazine adverts

This adverts main focus is on the image which is the same as the image on the album cover so people will recognise it. It also keep the main focus on the artist herself so we know exactly who it is. The text clearly highlights the release date so people know when they can purchase it. Therefore the image and text cohesion between the two suggests that it is Beyonce's album thats released on this date and now makes the message very clear for the reader. The advert is very simple and understated which makes the message easier to read and the audience can read it quickly wherever they see it.

This advert for the killers concert DVD and CD release and straight away we notice their recognisable logo and of their name. All their fans would recognise this straight away and therefore be attracted to reading the advert. They have also incorporated a cartoon image of the Royal Albert Hall and this tells the reader that this is no normal album and is in fact a live recording from a performance at this venue. As its for a very specific audience, they have mentioned featured songs on the CD so people will recognise it and automatically be drawn into the advert.

This advert for Ellie Gouldings alubm 'Lights' also includes an image that is related to the album and can be found on the cover. This allows the audience to recognise the album when its available to buy in the shops. There is also ratings at the bottom of the page from well accredeted music magazines allows the reader to put trust in their opinion and be more willing to buy the album. Her name overlapping the image of herself again creates text and image cohesion so we know that the photo is of herself and that she is the main focus of the album and works solo in the songs.

This poster is all in black and white with the exception of the two songs listed on the page which puts emphasis on them so the audience will recognise these songs and be more willing to buy the album if they recognise the content. The image of rihanna in makeup and posing shwos that the album is going to be very elaborate and will show her in a new light. Her name linked with 'The new album' clearly states that its to be released soon and therefore will be exclusive to the audience.

Digipak

For this task, i have included what is a digipak and my analysis of existing digipaks together as i thought they linked well together and one could lead straight into another. It helped me to think of ways to keep the conventions in the digipak but also how to put a twist on it so it fits the theme of indie rock.

Video research/ inspiration

I have found a few videos which are part of the same genre i am looking into and therefore are using these for inspiration. I am considering using different elements from a few of these videos.

This is the video of the song i wish to use in my music video. I like the stage theme that is used and i am looking to use this in my video as well as it looks classy and also keeps the focus on the artist almost like a live performance. It’s good how the lyrics link with the video with the narrative clips in between the performance to keep the audience interested. It’s clear that hair, makeup and costumes play a large part in making the video look high quality and also give us an indication of the time era as its very retro. The prominent image that the artist has makes it easier to find a target audience as young teenagers are always looking for a unique idol to aspire to.

This video actually belongs to the pop genre but i have included it as i like the fun and carefree feel the video has. It has a continuous narrative of a young teenage girl’s life as she goes through a break up and that is apparent through the link of the shots we see and the lyrics we hear. There are also elements of postmodernism with hyper reality being apparent throughout. This is noticeable as it looks like a dream world which is perfect and this is especially reinforced by the musicians dressed as woodland animals. Thus creating a perfect Disney-like world.

This Duffy video fits perfectly into the genre of Indie as the majority of the shots are of the artist singing which is one of the features of Indie music; to make sure the focus is on the artist and their talent, rather than being over powered by success. I like the black and white effect as it makes the clips look old and rustic which i want to use in my video. The lighting in the video is also very interesting and gives the video a high quality finish. I want to make sure the lighting is just like this in my video as combined with the black and white effect, i think i can create a great video.

National anthem includes many elements that make it look old fashioned and retro which is the look i want to go for. First of all, there is a sepia tone effect on the shots to make them look as if they are filmed on an old camera which straight away tells us when the video was meant to be set. The mise on scene with location and especially clothing tells us that they are reinacting scenes from the past and trying to tell a story. I also like how their is some context at the beginning and end of the video with some speech from the artist which helps us to understand the meaning behind the video.

History of music video

This week I have created a powerpoint to give a brief history of music videos and how they have developed over the years. I have stated what the first music video is and how they differ today. However some music videos still incorporate features from the original videos which demonstrates the importance the first video had.
