Diary entry 31

Looking back at the project
I feel like I've learnt a lot from this project and its helped me develop my skills in various different areas. I also think i have become more creative as the proposal was very brief, allowing us to make the products our own in whichever style we wanted. Overall i have really enjoyed the project and have kept my blog up to date throughout.

Diary entry 30

I think its a good idea to complete an evaluation as you get to reflect back on the project on what you did well and what you could have done differently. I also looked at how my plans had chanegd along the way and how my final product compares to my original plan. Each evaluation has focused on a different part of the project and i have had the chance to explain my reasons for doing certain things in the project.

Diary entry 29

This week i have finally finished my music video. I had feedback from my teacher on my second draft to add in clips of the letter to highlight what the narrative is throughout. So after editing these in i have now finished and the final version can be found on the posts below.

I also completed the technical difficulties task where i looked back throughout the project at what i had trouble with regarding equipment. I recognised what i had trouble with on the practical side E.G when filming and also on the theory side, when using certain programmes to edit and present my work. I found this helpful as i can now look back at it and see how i would change my method to stop these problems from happening in the future.

Diary entry 27

This weekend i have done a lot of work on my digipak. I managed to get feedback during the process which was helpful and gave me an idea of what my target audience would prefer. Now i have finished the draft, i'm hoping to get feedback were i will then make a few changes before having my final digipak complete. I can then start my magazine advert, as i want to use the digipak front cover for this.

My digipak made on Photoshop has come out quite different to what i had originally planned. But this was because of the type of shots i got during the photo shoot  I found some better images that suited the digipak better and looked more effective. These changes weren't too drastic and i was still able to follow some of my plan.

Diary entry 25

I have now put together all my raw footage to showcase that i did the work myself and that i directed the scenes. I did two separate videos to highlight my work from the performance side and from the narrative side as i filmed them at different times with different actors. I think this task was helpful because it reminded me of all the different shots i took and the variety that i had to choose from.

I have also started editing my final music video with the narrative that i filmed the other day. I am pleased with how it looks so far and hope to upload my final version within the next few days on my blog and ready to be evaluated.

Diary entry 24

Today as the weather was good, i managed to shoot the narrative part of my music video and also my photoshoot for my digipak and magazine advert. I did these both at the same time as the locations were near eachother and the weather was perfect for what i wanted as a lot of my footage was going to taken outside.

For my narrative ive chosen the story of a girl in the 1950's who is writing to her lover that lives thousands of miles away. This fits well with the lyrics and the title of the song 'Never tear us apart' as they are not letting the distance be an issue.

For my photoshoot, i did a nature theme and it's of a girl outside in a fairytale type land. This ties in well with the albums theme of love and picking the right choices in life.

Now i have completed this, i can start to make my final edit of my music video and digipak. I can also begin to create my poster advert as i now have the photos i need.

Diary entry 22

Today i have completed the first draft of my music video . It took me a long time to edit but i am now pleased with the end product. I used a method similar to a multicam where i lined up all the seperate clips and synced them with the music, then cut the different shots up into an order that i liked.

So far i have only used a live performance for my first draft but i will soon add a narrative after christmas for my next draft. The narrative will break up the performance and will help the reader get into the story and find it more interesting.

I have learnt a lot from filming and also preparing for shooting as i now know how to do it quickly and efficiently to not waste time. I would definately reccomend using the multicam as it saved a lot of time. I also had practise using the steadycam which will be useful for the future and can be used in different projects.

Diary entry 21

This week i have managed to finish my storyboard to help me with planning my music video and possibly give me ideas for editing.  I drew numerous different shots that i would like to recreate, however the order i have put them in may change as i am going to use a multicam so i can see which shots look better together.

I have also created a first draft of my digipak which i drew on paper and scanned onto my blog. I did this by hand because my digipak is going to consist mainly of photos so this would be hard to do a draft on photoshop. I am hoping to finish my digipak in the first few weeks back at school after christmas.

Diary entry 20

This week i managed to film a large chunk of my music video. This means i now have allt he footage i need to create my first draft and meet the deadline on time. I filmed a performance which i will then edit in premier and maybe use a multicam.

I am now starting to edit my clips and i am very pleased with how they turned out. I think because i used four cameras at one time i now have enough footage to choose between.

Diary week 19

This week i have managed to arrange myself a lot better. I have booked myself in for the studio and also booked out the equipment so i am ready to shoot the majority of my music video on the 3rd December. I now feel a lot happier that i have the date as i can now focus on costumes and props and then still have enough time to edit it.

Secondly I contacted the artists record company to inform them that i am planning on using their artists song. I did this via email and print screened it on my blog as proof that i have done this. Even if i dont recieve a reply i have atleast tried and can show that i have done this.

Finally this week i looked at the possible editing software that may be used when making a music video. I looked at premier, after effects and multicam. After doing this research i have decided i will probably use premier pro and the multicam for the live performance side of my music video as this will make much more effective use of time.

Diary week 16

This week i have completed two tasks so far. They are the music theory and the analysis of lyrics. For the music theory, i remembered many theorists from A2 and looked into ones such as 'the uses and gratifications theory' and also Laura Mulvey's theory of 'The male gaze' as these are both very important for music videos. I completed the lyric analysis because i knew which song i wanted to use and wanted to understand the full meaning of it, so looking at the lyrics in depth gave me a better idea of its meaning.

Diary week 12

After completing my initial ideas planning ,i now feel a lot more confident about shooting my music video. I feel like i have a clear idea of what i now want to do and writing it don on paper was very useful and made it easier to tie all my ideas together. I now have an image in my mind of how the video will look and how to make it classic and sophisticated with a modern twist.

Diray week 11

This week i created my moodboard for my music video and i found this very helpful and important as props are going to be the key to making my music video look retro and fit the genre. Therefore looking into different outfits, making styles and hairstyles were very beneficial and i have now got many ideas of the look i want for my video. I am now looking forward to peicing everything together and seeing what it looks like when i come to film.

Diary week 10

This week i have looked into digipaks and analysed them in depth. I looked at them mainly from the indie rock genre so i could get inspiration from them for when i come to create my own digipak. I looked into Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine and Marina and the diamonds and each differed from the next greatly, creating a good variety within one genre.
